Fans of Fable will have to wait a bit longer to return to the realm of Albion. Microsoft has confirmed that the new game from Playground Games won’t arrive this year and its release has been pushed back to February 2027. The news may be disappointing for those who were expecting to play it in the coming months, although Xbox wants to reassure fans that the project is on track.
Far from being a delay caused by development issues, the company insists that the game is progressing at a good pace and the decision is due to planning and scheduling reasons. In fact, Xbox’s latest statements suggest that the team is particularly satisfied with the results they’re achieving.
Xbox assures that Fable is in top shape despite the delay
The update comes from Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, during a recent appearance on the official Xbox podcast. According to him, Playground Games is continuing to make strong progress in development, and the current state of the game is very positive.
- Booty stated that the team is “very happy” with the project’s evolution and described the new Fable as a game that’s in “top shape”. Xbox believes that moving the release to February 2027 will allow the RPG to have its own window and avoid coinciding with other major releases in the market. Although no specific title was mentioned, many players are already pointing to GTA 6 as one of the possible factors that influenced this decision.
The good news is that the wait might be worth it soon. Microsoft has also announced that the next Xbox Games Showcase will include important updates on the game, so it’s likely that we’ll see new material, additional details, and even a more extensive demo of what Playground Games has been working on for years.
After several spectacular advancements and growing expectations, Fable remains one of the most important projects in Xbox’s future. Now we know that the journey to Albion will take a bit longer to begin, but Microsoft wants to make it clear that development is moving forward exactly as expected.
