Fans of Steins;Gate just got a surprise they didn’t see coming. The remake Steins;Gate Re:Boot is not only returning this summer with improvements and a brand-new visual update, but Xbox Series and PC will also be the first platforms to receive the game in the West.
This news is particularly noteworthy because, in recent years, the series had a rather irregular relationship with Xbox platforms outside of Japan. However, Microsoft will now be one of the biggest beneficiaries of the return of one of the most beloved sci-fi visual novels of the past few years.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot will arrive first on Xbox Series and PC in the West
Mages has confirmed that the remake will debut in the West on August 20, 2026, on Xbox Series and PC via Steam. Initially, many players thought that all Western versions would arrive on the same day as in Japan, especially since the game will include an English translation from launch, but there will be a significant difference between platforms.
- Other console versions won’t arrive until October 29, 2026. So far, neither Mages nor Spike Chunsoft has officially explained the reason for this schedule, although everything points to it being related to the physical editions planned for some platforms, while Xbox Series and PC will receive only a digital release.
Interestingly, this premiere also marks a kind of return to the franchise’s origins. The first Steins;Gate originally debuted as an Xbox 360 exclusive in Japan in 2009 before expanding to other systems. That’s why many veteran fans see this move as a historical nod to the series’ beginnings. Additionally, it will be the first time a Steins;Gate game has officially arrived on Xbox in the West on the same day as its release.
