Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, recent information suggests that Microsoft has other exciting plans for fans of the series in the coming months.
Several media outlets and analysts are starting to point in the same direction: Xbox could bolster Game Pass with a massive wave of classic Call of Duty games before the release of the next major episode in the franchise. This way, Microsoft would keep the presence of Activision alive within the service while continuing to reorganize its Day One release strategy after the recent price reduction.
Classic Call of Duty games could land on Game Pass gradually
According to PC Gamer, Xbox has the opportunity to incorporate numerous historic titles from the series into its catalog on both console and PC. Many of these games could also take advantage of Xbox Series’ backwards compatibility and even recover their online multiplayer modes.
These are some of the games that are being mentioned the most:
- Call of Duty (2003)
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 3
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Call of Duty: World at War
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
- Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
- Call of Duty: Vanguard
The possibility of seeing a large part of the series active within Game Pass again is generating a lot of interest, especially among those who have been asking for the return of some of the franchise’s most iconic multiplayer modes for years.
Additionally, this would also allow Microsoft to maintain a constant presence of Call of Duty within the service, even if future main releases don’t join from day one.
For now, there is no official confirmation on which titles will arrive exactly or when this possible gradual incorporation will begin, but after Xbox’s recent internal moves, it seems clear that Activision will continue to play a very important role within Game Pass over the next few years.
