It’s been several years since the original Steam Deck was released, and although Valve has kept the device alive with updates like the OLED model, many gamers have been waiting for news about its successor.

Now, new details are starting to emerge about the next generation. While there’s no official announcement, there’s interesting information that gives us a pretty clear idea of when we might see it… and what problems might affect its development.

Steam Deck 2 Could Arrive in 2028… with Possible Delays

According to information shared by insider KeplerL2 on forums like NeoGaf, Valve is currently aiming for a 2028 release for the future Steam Deck 2.

However, not everything is set in stone. The leaker himself notes that the global memory situation (RAM and NAND) could cause delays across the industry, something that has already affected the current Steam Deck and other similar devices.

Curiously, this could also have a positive side. Unlike consoles like next-gen ones that use more closed-off hardware, Valve’s approach would allow for adjusting specifications over time. In other words, if the release is delayed, the Steam Deck 2 could arrive with more powerful hardware than initially planned.

In the meantime, Valve is still focused on its current ecosystem, with production changes like the end of the LCD model and a greater bet on improved versions like the OLED. For now, it’s a waiting game, but everything points to the next Steam Deck not being imminent… and that there are still a few years to go until its arrival.
