The Resident Evil saga could be returning to its roots once again. According to a new leak from one of the most well-known insiders in the industry, Capcom has already begun development on a new remake of the first game in the franchise.

The information comes from leaker Dusk Golem, known for accurately predicting several details of the series in the past. According to his comments, the project has recently entered full production, although it’s still several years away from a potential release.

The Resident Evil 1 remake is in the very early stages

The original game, released in 1996, already received a well-remembered remake in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube. That version modernized the classic with updated graphics, new areas, and gameplay improvements, becoming one of the most respected revisions of the saga over time.

Now, according to the leaks, Capcom is considering reinterpreting the first chapter using their current technology, possibly with the RE Engine that has already been used in recent releases like Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, or the recent Resident Evil Requiem.

The insider himself notes that the project has just entered development, so its release is still far away. In his estimates, if the project moves forward, it could take between four and seven years to arrive, which is typical for large-scale productions within Capcom.

As always with this type of information, the company has not officially confirmed the project’s existence, so it’s best to take the leak with caution. Nevertheless, the idea of returning to the Spencer mansion with current technology is something that many fans have been waiting for years.
