Steam continues to refine its platform and this time has introduced an improvement that directly affects titles in Early Access. From now on, developers will be able to officially indicate when they plan to release the version 1.0 of their games, something that until now could only be communicated informally in descriptions or publications.
The novelty is already available to all studios that use Steamworks, and represents an important step towards giving greater transparency to a formula that has been working for years, but in some cases has been prolonged without a clear horizon.
Steam will allow showing the expected release date from Early Access
Valve has confirmed that developers will be able to add to their game’s page a specific date or an estimated window for the release of version 1.0. The system works similarly to that of games that arrive on Steam without going through early access.
Until now, many teams shared their plans on social media, forums, or within the descriptive text of the store. With this new tool, the information will be visible in an official and structured way, making it easier for users to know if a project has a defined goal or if it remains in indefinite development.
The measure can also strengthen confidence in certain projects, as setting a date (even if it’s approximate) implies a public commitment from the studio. For players, it means a clear reference in an ecosystem where some titles have remained in Early Access for years without a specific goal.
