The city of Boston and its surroundings were etched in the minds of all who passed through the desolate and dangerous lands of Fallout 4, but that scenario could have been very different according to Emil Pagliarulo, lead designer and writer of the title.
The creative gave an interview to PCGamer where he highlighted that New York City would have been iconic to represent that quintessential American aspect of the Bethesda saga, but the team ultimately opted for another location due to the number of games set in that same location at the time, mainly the Crysis series.

It was Todd Howard himself who suggested using Boston as the setting, along with other team members. Pagliarulo didn’t want to be too effusive about the suggestion of that place, since it was his own city, but he commented that he was delighted with the idea.

The anniversary edition of the game, which was released very recently, catapulted a resurgence of the title that, in turn, brought a flood of positive reviews on Steam after a brief period of complaints about some bugs and other issues that this version of the title brought on its release day.
