The expectations surrounding the next big release in the industry continue to grow, but so do the internal doubts. In recent hours, Jason Schreier has shared new information about the state of the most ambitious project from Rockstar Games, making it clear that there is still important work to be done.

According to Schreier, the latest news is that the game is not yet “fully locked down”, meaning it doesn’t have all its content complete. Development is still active, with missions in the adjustment phase, elements being added, and open decisions about what will ultimately make it into the final version.
GTA 6 is still in development, and Rockstar doesn’t guarantee a November release
In relation to the release window, the journalist is cautious. He believes that it’s very difficult to guarantee a November release at this point and doesn’t think anyone within the studio has absolute certainty about meeting that deadline. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that this possible release “feels more real” than previous references, such as autumn 2025 or May 2026.
- The reason is clear: Rockstar can’t afford to fail. Schreier recalls that the stakes are enormous, and practically all of Take-Two Interactive’s stock value depends on the success of GTA 6. For this reason, the company would rather delay it again than release it in a state that’s not up to par.
Additionally, Take-Two has some leeway: its fiscal year ends in late March 2027, which leaves a small cushion if they ultimately need more time and still want to release it within the same fiscal year. Schreier also points out that PlayStation is the primary platform for the project, to the point where Sony is organizing a significant part of its calendar around this release.
For now, everything indicates that development is moving forward, but without shortcuts. Rockstar wants to finalize the content as soon as possible to focus on the bug-fixing phase, with a clear goal: not to compromise what will be, by far, the most important release of the next few years.
