After years without relevant releases in the genre, Sound System has been announced as a new music game that recovers the spirit of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, with a confirmed release on Xbox as well.
The project is being developed by Echo Foundry Interactive, a studio formed by veterans of classic sagas in the genre. The game will offer support for guitar, bass, and vocals, with two distinct modes: Classic, more accessible, and Pro, aimed at experienced players.
Free-to-play launch and new guitar-style controller
Sound System will be free to play, with a complete paid edition that will unlock all initial songs. It will also allow purchasing individual songs and will feature visual customization options and a note editor to create your own musical tracks.
The initial launch is scheduled for PC in spring 2026, while the Xbox version is already in development. Alongside the game, the InfiniKore Telecaster Edition has been introduced, a new guitar-style controller with a modular design and compatibility with various current and classic music games, including Sound System.
Its notable features include:
-
Modular design with interchangeable parts
-
New fret control system
-
Compatibility with multiple platforms
-
Focus on accessibility and customization
Additionally, the game will also be compatible with other existing controllers, such as classic Rock Band guitars or more recent models.
Everything points to 2026 being the year of the guitar’s return to Xbox.
