The Midwinter 2025 event is now underway in Fortnite, but far from just generating a festive atmosphere, it has sparked widespread outrage among part of the community. The reason isn’t the content itself, but a significant change in how to obtain the event’s free rewards.

For years, players could accumulate gifts without logging in daily, allowing them to open them all together later before the event ended. It was a flexible system, especially convenient during Christmas. In this edition, Epic Games has decided to change the rules.

Fortnite Midwinter 2025 requires daily login to avoid losing gifts

In Midwinter 2025, gifts no longer accumulate. To unlock all the free rewards (including two free skins) it’s necessary to log in at least once a day. Missing a day means losing that specific gift, something many players consider an unnecessarily restrictive decision.

• It’s true that the total number of rewards is slightly less than the event’s duration, allowing for one or two missed days without losing everything. Still, the general feeling is that the system punishes the player instead of rewarding consistency in a more flexible way, as in previous years.

Criticism is already piling up on social media and forums, where many users point out that this approach prioritizes daily engagement over player convenience, especially during a time of year when not everyone can log in daily.

On a positive note, Epic reminds us that Fortnite can also be played on Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Android, and iOS, making it easier to claim gifts even when away from home. Nevertheless, the change has already been made… and it hasn’t gone down well.
