The Steam Deck is entering a new phase. Units with LCD screens, the first models released by Valve, are about to disappear from the official catalog after being sold out in several key markets and with no replenishment forecast.
In the US Valve store, the stock is already listed as sold out, and in other territories, only the last units remain. When they are sold, the LCD model will be officially discontinued, closing an era that for years was the most affordable entry point to the Steam Deck ecosystem.
Steam Deck OLED becomes the base model
This move implies a significant change in the offer. With the withdrawal of the LCD, the Steam Deck OLED 512 GB is positioned as the new starting point for those who want to buy the handheld console, increasing the minimum access price compared to the previous model.
The decision comes in a complicated context for hardware, marked by rising component costs, especially memory. Everything suggests that Valve will opt to maintain prices rather than cut them, leaving little room for the entry point to be cheaper in the short term.
For those who valued the Steam Deck LCD for its price, the message is clear: the last units are flying off the shelves. From now on, the Steam Deck experience will be linked to the OLED screen, with evident improvements in image quality and efficiency, but also with a higher initial outlay.
