The relationship between the Fallout series and video games goes far beyond a simple adaptation. With the second season already underway, Todd Howard has made one of the clearest statements to date about the future of the saga in video games.
The executive producer of Bethesda has confirmed that the events and stories seen in the series will be part of the official context of Fallout 5, integrating into the same universe that players will explore when the next numbered installment arrives.
Fallout 5 will coexist with the events of the series
In a recent interview, Todd Howard explained that Fallout 5 will take place in a world where the events of the series have already occurred or are occurring, making it clear that the TV adaptation is completely canonical within the franchise universe. It’s not just about isolated nods or references, but a real coexistence between both formats.
- According to Bethesda, this decision was made from the early stages of the TV project. The series’ creative team worked in constant coordination with the studio to ensure that characters, events, and tone fit with the long-term plans for the saga. Everything that appears on screen is designed not to contradict (and in some cases expand) what will come in future games.
However, Howard also recalled that the development of Fallout 5 is still far away, as the studio’s main focus remains on The Elder Scrolls VI, in addition to continued support for Fallout 76. Nevertheless, this confirmation makes it clear that when the new Fallout arrives, it will do so in a broader, more coherent, and connected scenario than ever before.
