The release of version 1.0 of Escape from Tarkov on PC has marked a before and after for one of the most demanding shooters of the last decade. After completing its long period in early access, the Battlestate Games team is starting to look beyond the computer ecosystem, opening the door to a possibility that players have been wondering about for years.

The question is clear: will Tarkov make the leap to consoles? And this time, the official answer leaves little room for doubt: yes, the studio is seriously considering it, although development has not yet begun.

Escape from Tarkov on PS5 and Xbox Series

Nikita Buyanov (game director) openly acknowledged that Battlestate Games is studying a console adaptation for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, although he notes that the project is not yet in the active phase. The idea is linked to a profound change in the game’s design itself: bringing Tarkov to consoles would imply rethinking its mechanics from the ground up, especially due to the need to implement full controller support on PC and console.

• Buyanov explains that full controller compatibility is not a simple technical adjustment, but a challenge that affects the combat pace, inventory management, and accuracy, elements that define Tarkov’s identity. If the project finally gets underway, the studio would have to adapt the experience without losing the game’s essence, which points to a long-term effort.

The arrival of the title on consoles fits with the current moment of the project: after nine years of development and with version 1.0 already available, Battlestate Games can look towards new platforms, including a possible arrival on Switch 2 if the console ultimately fits into their plans. For now, there are no firm dates or confirmations, but the interest exists and the leap no longer seems so distant.
