Following the release of MGS Delta: Snake Eater, the company still hasn’t figured out the immediate future of the series. Noriaki Okamura, producer of the series, has explained that the team is studying what the next step should be and that, for now, there is no definitive roadmap. The Japanese firm wants to take advantage of the new momentum generated by Delta, although it still needs to decide what format is most suitable for continuing.
This indecision comes at a crucial moment: the Master Collection Vol. 2 is already underway, and part of the community expects Konami to continue recovering classics that have been untouched for years. But now, even within the studio, they recognize that not all games can be approached in the same way and that each installment requires a distinct approach.
Konami weighs new Metal Gear remakes, but MGS4 poses significant obstacles
Okamura points out that the team is evaluating different possibilities, from new remakes to completely original projects. According to him, the goal is to keep the interest of an audience that has grown up with the series and that, with Delta, has expanded to include younger players. However, he insists that the final decision has not been made yet and that each title requires different techniques to update with guarantees.
The case of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is particularly complex. The producer acknowledges that the PS3 hardware forced the design of very unconventional systems, and that transferring that code to current platforms would be a huge challenge. Although Konami does not rule out studying it, the technical difficulty makes MGS4 one of the most demanding projects in the entire franchise, and there is no indication that it will materialize soon.
