The return of one of the most influential classics in video game history could be closer than we thought. Tom Henderson, known for frequently leaking accurate information, claims that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has already set its release window after years of uncertainty. The project, which has gone through multiple delays and internal studies, has finally entered its final phase, according to several close sources.
He claims to have spoken with people familiar with the development, who place its arrival in mid-January 2026. Although it’s not an official date, several indications point to Ubisoft preparing an imminent announcement, and the final presentation could take place during The Game Awards 2025, where the exact release date would also be revealed.
A complicated development that finally sees the light
The remake was announced in 2020 and its journey has not been easy. Initially planned for January 2021, it soon faced criticism for its visual aspect, leading to a delay until March of the same year. Just before its release, it was postponed again, and after months of silence, Ubisoft decided to transfer the project from the Pune and Bombay studios to the Ubisoft Montreal offices, responsible for the original.
This internal reboot proposed a more ambitious approach: renewed graphics, improved animations, complete combat revisions, and a more fluid parkour system. In 2024, it was learned that Ubisoft Toronto also joined the development, reinforcing a project that since then has been directly aimed at 2026.
Without official confirmation, everything indicates that Ubisoft is ready to finally show the final aspect of the remake. January 2026 is starting to sound strong, and if the rumors are true, the final presentation won’t be long in coming.
