EA and Codemasters have confirmed a surprise twist for the Formula 1 saga. After years of annual releases, the studio will break the usual cycle and will not launch F1 26, jumping straight to a new installment scheduled for 2027. This decision marks a significant change within one of the most consistent sports licenses on the market.
The company has explained that F1 25 will serve as a bridge throughout next year thanks to a paid expansion, a move that will allow the team to focus resources on a complete overhaul for 2027. The studio indicates that this pause is part of an internal adjustment aimed at modernizing the series and offering a more ambitious experience.
F1 26 is canceled and F1 25 will receive an expansion in 2026
The plan establishes that F1 25 will be expanded in 2026 with premium content that will incorporate the real changes in the sport for the 2026 season. This includes new cars, updated regulations, reconfigured teams, and revised lineups, all within the same base as the current game. The expansion will arrive as a standalone update and will completely replace the traditional annual release.
According to EA and Codemasters, the decision is part of a “strategic reboot” that will allow them to lay the foundations for F1 27, scheduled for 2027 and presented as a project that “looks, feels, and plays differently“. The studio claims that it will offer more playable options and a broader vision of the championship, developed in collaboration with F1 and the eleven official teams.
For now, there are no concrete details about the content or release date of the 2026 expansion, but it is expected that EA will share more information in the coming months. What is certain is that the franchise is abandoning its annual rhythm to bet on a longer and more ambitious development.
