Following the confirmation of the delay of GTA 6 until November 2026, thousands of reactions flooded social media. Among the shows of support, one stood out in particular: that of CD Projekt RED, which decided to send an indirect message to Rockstar, reminding them of their own experience with Cyberpunk 2077.
The Polish studio, responsible for the futuristic RPG, published on social media an image from 2020 in which they claimed their game would suffer no further delays, just two months before its official release. A gesture that, in hindsight, serves as self-criticism and a warning at the same time: it’s better to delay a title than to repeat the mistakes of a rushed launch.
“Better late and polished than quick and broken”
The message has been interpreted by the community as a way to support Rockstar’s decision and remind them that, at the time, Cyberpunk 2077 was released before it was completely ready, with severe performance issues on consoles.
Today, the game is in an excellent state after years of patches and updates, but the reputational damage was enormous and is still remembered as one of the most chaotic launches of the last decade. That’s why CD Projekt RED seems to be telling Rockstar: “don’t make the same mistake we did”.
The parallelism is evident. GTA 6 is, probably, the most anticipated video game in modern history. The pressure is huge, and every detail will be scrutinized when it finally hits the market. Rockstar, aware of this, has chosen to prioritize quality and stability, even if it means a temporary loss of millions in stock.
CD Projekt RED’s message not only shows humility but also maturity as a studio: having learned from a monumental stumble and turning it into a public lesson. And for Rockstar, it’s a clear reminder that patience can be worth more than any marked date on the calendar.
