The announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved continues to generate conversation among fans, and this time, the studio behind the project has clarified one of the decisions that has sparked the most debate: the complete absence of PvP multiplayer mode.
In an interview with Windows Central, Damon Conn, executive producer of Halo Studios, explained that the team is not looking to replace the classic original, but rather reinterpret it from a modern perspective. “We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece of the original,” Conn stated. “We want to create something that stands up to it, using new tools and new energy, to give a fresh touch to some things, while honoring the legacy.”
The new approach of Halo: Campaign Evolved prioritizes joint experience
Beyond nostalgia, the studio has wanted to give prominence to a more collaborative type of experience. Conn revealed that online co-op mode for four players was one of the key pieces from the beginning of development, designed for players to share the campaign and rediscover the story that gave rise to the saga together.
The goal is to bring people together. Halo has always been about community, about sharing stories and moments. We believe this remake will allow us to revive that connection from a new angle.
Although the decision to eliminate PvP has surprised many, rumors point to Halo Studios working on a separate multiplayer project, developed in parallel, which would cover that competitive ground more comprehensively. For now, what is confirmed is that Halo: Campaign Evolved will arrive in 2026 with co-op mode for four players, graphics in Unreal Engine 5, and all the power of the new Xbox approach.
