Rod Fergusson, one of the most recognized names in the industry and responsible for leading the Diablo franchise over the past five years, has announced that he is leaving Blizzard Entertainment and Microsoft. The Canadian creative has been a key piece in the saga’s momentum, overseeing no less than four major releases during this time, including Diablo IV and its expansions.
In a message posted on his personal X account, Fergusson bid farewell, ensuring that he leaves “with his sword in hand” and that the teams he leaves behind are perfectly prepared to continue achieving success. He also highlighted that Diablo has a very powerful release calendar ahead, and that he is “proud of what we have created together” over the past five years.
An Open Future for Fergusson… and for Diablo
Although he hasn’t given any hints about his next professional destination, Fergusson is a veteran with an impressive track record. Before his time at Blizzard, he was the top executive in charge of the Gears of War saga at The Coalition and also worked on titles like BioShock Infinite. His departure opens up the question of what his next step will be, but his talent and experience guarantee that we won’t have to wait long to see him linked to a new major project.
Meanwhile, Diablo will continue with the development of its upcoming content, including new expansions and updates for Diablo IV, as well as the maintenance and growth of Diablo Immortal. Fergusson leaves the bar high and a legacy that has marked a very productive era for the saga.

The teams are set up for success, with an exciting slate of releases ahead. I'm incredibly proud of what… pic.twitter.com/Fsh4gjmgVl
