The Microsoft Gaming ecosystem continues to evolve, not only in terms of services and catalog, but also in how it communicates with players. Just two months after introducing the term Xbox PC, the company has decided to officially rename that label to “Xbox on PC”.
This change has gone relatively unnoticed by many users, but it has started to appear in promotional materials for games like Grounded 2 or Age of Mythology: Heavenly Spear, where the new brand replaces the old one. The modification, although subtle, reflects an adjustment in Microsoft’s marketing strategy: they want the public to understand that PC is also a way to play on Xbox.
What the change to “Xbox on PC” implies
The previous label Xbox PC aimed to simplify other names like Xbox App for Windows, Windows 10/11, or even PC Game Pass, unifying the entire experience under one umbrella. However, that attempt didn’t quite work out, and now the new identity seeks to be more direct: Xbox on PC, no fuss.
- According to journalist Tom Warren (The Verge), the name started appearing in official materials since late July, and has already spread to both first-party and third-party games. The intention is to reinforce the idea that any screen can be an Xbox, something that Sarah Bond already made clear with the “This is an Xbox” campaign.
We’ll have to see if this new approach finally manages to connect better with the audience that plays on PC, and if it can differentiate itself enough from other platforms like Steam or Epic Games Store. Meanwhile, the Xbox brand continues to expand beyond the console, embracing the PC as another piece of the ecosystem.
