Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 surprises… but still far from Xbox Series S performance

The comparison made this week by Digital Foundry between several versions of Cyberpunk 2077 has put the focus on the new edition for Switch 2. However, the analysis has also served to highlight a key aspect: how well the game’s version on Xbox Series S performs, which manages to maintain a smooth and solid experience, even in the face of this new generation of portable hardware. Something we had already seen in previous comparisons.

According to the report, the Xbox Series S version offers a clear technical advantage over the Switch 2 version, especially in its Performance mode. While Nintendo’s console aims for 40 FPS, the Series S maintains 60 FPS in most situations, with only occasional drops. This difference not only translates to greater smoothness, but also to a median resolution 73% higher in similar conditions.

• The Digital Foundry team also compares both consoles in terms of dynamic resolution, highlighting that Microsoft’s console advantage can exceed 70% in some scenes. Although Switch 2 manages to reach 1080p on occasion, its limitations become evident in more demanding areas of the game, where the frame rate drops noticeably.
• Additionally, it is noted that the Zen 2 cores of the Xbox Series S are more than twice as powerful as the Jaguar cores of the previous generation, which explains why Cyberpunk 2077 runs with such stability even on this more affordable console.

The analysis concludes with an interesting reflection: although Switch 2 is capable of running current titles with good results, games that require intensive CPU use may require additional adjustments. In any case, the Xbox Series S version continues to set the standard to beat in terms of quality-price and performance, at least in the case of this ambitious RPG from CD Projekt RED.
