In the latest shareholders’ meeting of Ubisoft, CEO Yves Guillemot and financial director Frederick Duguet shared details about several projects in development, including a new Ghost Recon and a discussion about the performance of Star Wars Outlaws. They also talked about the development budget of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which exceeded 100 million euros.
According to the company itself, the game’s final budget would be around $116 million. However, it’s essential to consider that these costs do not include marketing, which means the actual costs are significantly higher.
One of the highest in the saga
Assassin’s Creed Shadows, announced in September 2022, has been developed by Ubisoft Quebec, with support from 14 other studios within the company. Although no details have been revealed about whether the game has recouped its development costs, its performance has been notable. In the United States, it’s the third best-selling game to date in May 2025, according to Circana’s data. Additionally, Ubisoft reported that the game had attracted over three million players shortly after its release, and achieved the second-highest first-day sales in the series, surpassing the previous record set by Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and is expected to receive free updates, such as the New Game Plus mode and its first expansion, Claws of Awaji, by the end of this year. Furthermore, it has been announced that a cooperative mode will be released supposedly next year, suggesting that Ubisoft continues to invest in the game to keep its fans engaged with the gaming experience.
