During the talk, the developers detailed the most curious aspects of this new content, focused on bringing the world to life and expanding the driving experience.
With the goal of making the game more immersive and realistic, the team has worked hand in hand with studios like Virtuos and has listened to many of the community’s suggestions. These are some of the most interesting things that will arrive with the patch. That’s why we’ve recovered the most interesting details and curiosities of this awaited update.
All the hidden curiosities of the 2.3 update of Cyberpunk 2077
1. Over 200 new paint jobs
In total, 205 generic paintings and 168 unique patterns have been added for traffic cars, all of which can be scanned. By scanning a car with a special paint job, you can unlock it to apply it to your own vehicles.
We wanted each component to make sense within the world. Even the most basic cars can look like real sports cars with this system,” the developers explained during the live stream.
2. Expanded vehicle customization
The visual modification function has been extended to low-end cars and new sports brand models. Now there are over 32 vehicles compatible with the Twin-Tone and Crystal Coat systems.
3. New cars inspired by comics
One of the three new cars added is taken directly from an official Cyberpunk comic. It can be obtained by completing a chain of quests and visiting a specific fixer.
One of the new vehicles comes directly from a Cyberpunk comic. It can be seen on one of its pages and has been adapted to the game with all the details. The developers have also included a new motorcycle and a Caliburn sports car with special finishes, expanding the catalog in a way that is consistent with the lore.
4. Motorcycles also customizable
The new systems also apply to motorcycles. And not only that: now the models respond better to physics, making them more realistic.
The best thing is to put on some smooth jazz and let yourself be carried away while the night falls over the city,” they joked during the talk while showing the function in real-time.
5. New giant truck unlockable
A large armored truck has been introduced, ideal for breaking through enemies. To unlock it, you must meet certain requirements: have an active quest with River and have completed missions with at least three different fixers.
6. Automatic driving with cinematic camera
From now on, any car can drive itself to a marked destination. This function is not available on terrain such as the Badlands, but it is available in the city. A music video-style camera has been added, ideal for captures or simply to enjoy the ride.
7. Advanced photography in free mode
The photo mode has been greatly improved. Now you can change the time of day, the weather, and even add music to a scene. A function to save compositions as postcards has also been included, with filters and color balance.
The photography system has been expanded with the option to modify the atmospheric time, the time of day, add filters, change the color balance, and even freeze the action to capture scenes in a comic or postcard style. This tool is directly inspired by the game’s photographic community, as revealed during the live stream.
8. Compatibility with previous achievements is maintained
Despite the inclusion of new missions, vehicles, and unlockable content, achievements are not affected. CD Projekt RED wants to avoid making players feel like they’ve lost something by not completing new content.
9. Traffic control for cinematic scenes
In automatic driving mode, the vehicle respects traffic rules and adapts to the environment, with stops at traffic lights, smooth curves, and consistent speed. All of this is designed to capture immersive videos.
10. Added support for Nintendo Switch 2 (still pending)
During the talk, it was also confirmed that the update will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, although there is no definitive date yet. The version is in development and will be announced on official social media when it’s ready.
For the first time, CD Projekt has publicly confirmed that Virtuos Studios has collaborated on the development of this major update, including vehicles, visual effects, and part of the new camera system. The collaboration also covers other future projects that have not been announced.
11. Natural integration of all systems
Everything new in 2.3 has been designed with one principle in mind: it should seem like it’s always been there. The customizable vehicles, automatic driving, or the new photo mode effects integrate perfectly with the world and its rules.
12. Nods to virtual photography fans
Many of the changes introduced come directly from the community. CD Projekt has actively listened to the requests of the most creative players and has improved the tools based on their feedback.
The 2.3 update will be available tomorrow, July 17th, on all platforms: Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. As for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, they have confirmed that it will arrive with some delay, but it will be fully adapted for that platform. Additionally, the developers have confirmed that no new achievements or trophies will be added, so as not to confuse players who are trying to complete the game at 100%.
As a final summary of the live stream, CD Projekt RED left a phrase that reflects the spirit of this update well:
“We want each car, each ride, and each photo to make sense within the game world. We want everything to be connected to the experience of living in Night City.”
