The world of extreme sports has always been attractive to many people, especially those who dream of doing spectacular things. In the 90s, there was a wide variety of these disciplines, but one of them stood out for its growing popularity and acceptance: skateboarding.
Over time, a legacy was forged that was consolidated thanks to several recognized names. One of them was Tony Hawk, who with daring maneuvers not only became a reference in the sport but also the face of his own video game. His influence was such that he managed to normalize the experience of being on a skateboard and allowed us to explore this world through the controller.
Now, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 returns, offering us the opportunity to put on the shoes of the greatest skaters of all time and relive that unique feeling with this new installment.

Technical Section
The current generation of consoles is in a phase close to its end. With this, I want to convey that developers now have enough experience to squeeze the most out of each title they launch. In this context, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 arrives, a return that presents palpable improvements compared to its original versions.
It is evident that significant advances have been implemented, especially in the technical section. The entire universe of these two games has been recreated with a level of detail that is very attractive, making use of visual resources that greatly improve what we see on screen.
This translates into lighting effects, particles, and a more vibrant world that fits perfectly with the game’s proposal. All this without losing the essence of the original titles. Personally, I can say that I loved it, and you will feel identified with what appears on screen, whether you are a fan of this character or the discipline. The finish is excellent and deserves to be valued.
We are, without a doubt, facing a remake that continues the path traced by its previous compilation. It is true that some creative liberties have been taken, which is completely logical. It’s not about reproducing the exact same game from decades ago; it’s necessary to bring new elements and adapt it to current players.
Regarding the dubbing, it is well done, although don’t expect voices in Spanish. It’s understandable and predictable, since it’s not a game loaded with dialogues, but rather bets on action and freedom of movement. As for the soundtrack, I have no complaints. I know there are cuts regarding the original songs, but that doesn’t take away quality or coherence with the game’s style.
An important detail that I cannot overlook is that the game is part of Xbox Play Anywhere. This means you can enjoy a single copy on both your Xbox console and PC, with the advantage of keeping your progress when switching from one platform to another. Something that is greatly appreciated.
My computer is not high-end. I have an ASUS TUF Gaming F15 with an RTX 3050 and 32 GB of RAM, and the game has worked wonderfully for me in medium-high configuration, and even high in some cases. However, performance drops a bit when special modes are activated that drastically change the game’s visual style. Fortunately, they are optional, and you can enjoy the game without demanding too much from your equipment.
On the console, on the other hand, the experience is even more stable. At least in my case, I haven’t noticed performance drops, failures, or technical issues. The game behaves solidly, with constant 60 fps and spectacular 4K resolution. There’s no doubt: it’s a title that is enjoyed enormously at an audiovisual level and that you should try at least once, especially taking advantage of its availability on Xbox Game Pass.

Gameplay
It’s time to delve into the section that defines everything, the one that really speaks for the game and has enough weight to understand why Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is what it is: an experience in which we become skaters and seek glory while performing our best tricks throughout various scenarios.
We’re not facing a complex story or a deep narrative. Here, we’ve come to the essential: getting on the board and letting our imagination fly. Said that, we’re facing an arcade experience from the old school, in which we have certain elements that allow us to stand out from other players.
If you’re a beginner in the saga or not very familiar with this type of game, the most recommended thing is to start with the tutorial. Through a simple scheme, you’ll learn to move and execute each action. This step is fundamental for those who haven’t played a Tony Hawk game before and serves as a starting point to familiarize yourself with the controls and your own movements.
However, if you’re a veteran player and already know what this saga offers, you can launch yourself directly to choose your favorite character from an extensive list that includes great legends, as well as guest and special characters from other very popular franchises. You also have the option to create your own skater if you’re looking for something more personalized.

Each of these characters has their own repertoire of movements and abilities, which can also be improved as we progress in the career mode, raising their statistics and turning them into more complete skaters. The variety is guaranteed.
Once we choose our representative, we can edit their clothing and skateboard style, opening a wide range of customization options. Keep in mind that to unlock more options, you’ll need to play and advance progressively.
In both Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4, we’ll find levels with a 2-minute time limit and a series of objectives that we must complete to continue. Here lies the core of the game, as you’ll inevitably have to repeat several levels to get all the elements. This adds a level of challenge that fosters constant improvement of the player.
If you prefer, you can make the experience more accessible thanks to certain help options that the game includes. These facilities are recommended if you’ve reached your limit or don’t want to get frustrated, although with time, patience, and practice, it’s perfectly possible to progress without resorting to them.
Besides the career mode, which is the main option, the game features a free mode to explore the scenarios, ideal for familiarizing yourself with each environment and getting the most out of it. On the other hand, if you already consider yourself an expert, you can put your skills to the test in the multiplayer mode facing other players.
Dominating this title requires a lot of practice; I won’t lie to you. It’s an addictive game that hooks you from the first games. You can have short sessions to learn and improve, but if you decide to squeeze it to the maximum, I assure you that you’ll spend hours enjoying and perfecting each trick. It’s a free, carefree experience, perfect for disconnecting for a while and getting in tune with skateboarding.
We’re facing an excellent game. I know some veterans might feel a bit disappointed by certain changes, but believe me: the goal is to reach more players and enjoy the journey. Games must evolve and not get stuck. For all this, this installment is a great proposal, accessible to everyone, but with enough challenge to keep you hooked for a long time.

Duration
One of the things that I’ve enjoyed the most about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is its great versatility. I say this because it adapts perfectly to what you want to get out of the game. You can complete the career mode in a few hours; without exaggerating, you could do it in around 15-20 hours if you’re not very skilled with the controller.
If you’re an expert in the saga, it might take you half the time mentioned. But here’s the interesting part: that only corresponds to the career mode. After that, you can continue with the New Game+ or go for the game’s collectibles. Additionally, there are hidden characters, boards, outfits, and much more content that expands the experience for many hours more.
To top it off, the game features a multiplayer mode. And if that’s not enough, you also have the possibility of creating your own scenarios or enjoying those created by other players. In short, we’re facing a very complete proposal, although at first glance it might seem like just a skateboarding game.
A title with a lot to offer that you’ll squeeze to the maximum - ¡Comparte!
Conclusion
We close with a very positive balance for the return of Tony Hawk. It’s true that perhaps the surprise factor that the first two installments offered in 2020 is no longer present, but that doesn’t take away value from what is, without a doubt, a solid work in all its sections. It’s a game designed to enjoy, to feel free, and to release stress. Pure fun.
Whether you’re a fan of this discipline or not, believe me that this title has a lot to offer to any type of player. If you’re a veteran, the challenge is assured after overcoming the campaign. And if you’re a beginner, you’ll find options that will help you understand the mechanics without getting frustrated.
Nostalgia and the essence of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 are present. Maybe to a lesser extent than before, but everything we love about the character and what he represents in popular culture remains. An icon that came to the world of video games to bring us charisma, fun, and, above all, freedom to entertain ourselves. A must-play game that you should try and enjoy within the Xbox catalog.
