Warning: Playing Call of Duty WW2 on PC could put your equipment at risk

On June 30, Call of Duty WW2 arrived on Game Pass, which was excellent news for many people who, like the author, had been waiting to enjoy the title on the service for a long time. However, the problem arises a little later with a serious security warning that puts all players who enjoy the title on PC at risk, and this is due to a vulnerability that enables RCE (Remote Command Execution) attacks, which can cause significant harm to affected users.

The Remote Command Execution technique is used to access other players’ games or even the device running it. In this way, once access is gained, the hacker executes a code that allows them to steal information or add various types of malware. What’s surprising is that this practice is not new to the Call of Duty franchise, but it still exists in 2025 and despite some games having arrived on Game Pass, which exponentially increases the number of players who can fall prey to this type of attack.

Long-standing problems

Earlier this week, some Call of Duty games were disabled for maintenance reasons, including Call of Duty: WW2, but it has not been confirmed whether the vulnerability that enabled RCEs was finally fixed. On social media, several voices are already warning about the danger, and many users report being affected by the problem. For example, in one of the cases shared, malicious code was used to open pornography on a player’s PC while they were in the middle of a Call of Duty WW2 game.

The true extent of this issue is still unknown, but it would be good to know that Activision is taking action so that the only concern for players is to complete missions successfully. When we have official updates on this, rest assured that we will be the first to share them.
