Despite divided criticism and commercial ups and downs after its release, The Callisto Protocol managed to reach a wider audience than many imagined. According to a KRAFTON executive, the game reached 7.2 million players in its first year, solidifying its role in the company’s editorial strategy.
The information comes from the LinkedIn profile of the current vice president of publishing for the Americas at KRAFTON, who was directly involved in its release. In his professional experience, he highlights this data as part of the key milestones of his management, along with other titles such as PUBG, InZOI, and Subnautica.
KRAFTON confirms that The Callisto Protocol reached 7.2 million players
Released in December 2022, The Callisto Protocol was the first game from Striking Distance Studios, led by Glen Schofield, creator of Dead Space. Although its critical reception was mixed and initial sales fell short of expectations, the game managed to sustainably expand its player base in the following months, especially after its arrival in sales and bundles.
KRAFTON’s official data had never detailed the total number of players until now. This number does not necessarily represent direct sales, but it does indicate the title’s accumulated reach among sold copies, promotions, and access on different platforms. It is likely that part of this growth also comes from discounted editions or special packages published during 2023 and 2024.
