Steam drives Capcom’s profits: it now accounts for 42% of its video game revenue

The growth of the last quarter marks a historical record, while console sales slow down pace.

Capcom has shared its latest financial report and the numbers leave no room for doubt: Steam has become its most profitable platform. According to the balance sheet for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, the Japanese company has experienced a 61.1% increase in revenue from PC, compared to the previous year.

This growth represents $366 million in revenue generated exclusively on the Valve platform. In proportional terms, this means that 42.1% of Capcom’s annual video game profits come from Steam, an unprecedented figure for a publisher historically associated with consoles like PlayStation or Nintendo.

Monster Hunter and the PC ecosystem propel Capcom

One of the factors that has directly influenced this rise is the explosive performance of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC. The game recorded over 1.38 million concurrent players, solidifying its position as one of Capcom’s most powerful releases in recent history. The simultaneous release model, combined with advanced features and good support, has been key to its adoption by the PC audience.

• In contrast, console platforms — especially PlayStation — have not been able to maintain the same momentum, showing more modest results during the same period. Capcom has not detailed exact figures by console, but has indicated that its priorities are increasingly aligned with high-performance digital environments and international expansion, such as Steam.

All this reinforces the shift in trend within the company, which just a decade ago saw PC as a secondary platform. Now, with titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, or Dragon’s Dogma 2 receiving strong support on PC, Capcom has found in Steam a trusted partner that multiplies its global reach and improves profitability per unit sold.
