Resident Evil Requiem won’t just mark a change of tone in the series, with a focus more centered on psychological terror, but it will also be a milestone in its timeline. Capcom has confirmed that the story will take place in the year 2028, making it the main installment set further in time.
This new chapter takes us three decades after the nuclear attack on Raccoon City that we saw in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. In that period, the world has changed, bioterrorist horrors have evolved, and the protagonist role now falls on Grace Ashcroft, an FBI researcher who breaks with the usual profile of the series’ heroes.
When does Resident Evil Requiem occur in the official chronology
Requiem is set after the events of Resident Evil 7 (2017) and Village (2021), and is only surpassed by the epilogue of the DLC Shadows of Rose, set in 2037. This gives it a key position as a new reference in the future development of the Resident Evil story.
As a summary, these are the main games in chronological order:
-
Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil — July 1998
-
Resident Evil 2 and 3: Nemesis — September/October 1998
-
Code Veronica — December 1998
-
Resident Evil 4 — Autumn 2004
-
Resident Evil 5 — March 2009
-
Resident Evil 6 — December 2012 to July 2013
-
Resident Evil 7 — July 2017
-
Resident Evil Village — February 2021
-
Resident Evil Requiem — 2028
-
Village: Shadows of Rose (DLC) — 2037
With a later setting and a more introspective focus, Requiem raises questions about the legacy of Umbrella, the expansion of bioterrorism, and the traumas inherited from previous generations. It will be available on February 27, 2026 on Xbox Series, PC, and PlayStation 5.
