Xbox kicks off 2026 with a powerful launch in the fighting genre. 2XKO, the new free-to-play game from Riot Games, now has a definitive release date and will arrive on Xbox Series on January 20, 2026, coinciding with its official launch outside of early access.
After several months of early access on PC, Riot has decided to take the final step and launch its competitive bet on consoles as well, with Xbox Series as one of the main platforms alongside PS5 and PC. The announcement was made through a trailer that, although no longer publicly available, has served to confirm both the release date and the final focus of the project.
Team fights and competitive DNA, also on Xbox
Developed by Riot Games, 2XKO bets on a 2v2 combat system, where coordination is just as important as individual skill. Players can control both fighters or team up with another person, switching characters in real-time during combat.
The roster features iconic champions from the League of Legends universe, reimagined with moves and mechanics typical of a traditional fighting game. All of this is supported by a very polished 2D visual section, stages set in Runaterra, and an original soundtrack.
In the online section, Riot promises a solid experience on Xbox thanks to rollback netcode, advanced anti-cheat systems, and multiple game modes: ranked matches, casual modes, private rooms, and a lobby system reminiscent of classic arcade saloons.
With its launch on Xbox Series, 2XKO is shaping up to be one of the major competitive free-to-play bets of 2026, designed for both solo and duo play, with a clear focus on long-term engagement. January is looking strong for Xbox players.
